Our creator, Jessica, always had a love for carnivorous plants since she was a child, Venus Fly Traps in particular. However, much like the experience many others, any Fly Traps she got didn't last very long. She started seriously keeping carnivorous plants in 2020 and selling seeds to help pay for the vet care of her ill bearded dragon, Pheobe, while attending university. We started as Pheobe's Fantastical Flora and Pheobe (RIP) will always be remembered as the reason we exist.
From there, we have expanded into the business we are today! traveling across alberta and showing off these amazing plants and educating the public about their care. In Pheobe's honor, we hope to start a small non-profit shelter for bearded dragons in need, partially funded by Chomp & Bloom.
"I've tried keeping one before, but it died"
Education is our greatest passion at Chomp & Bloom. Thousands of carnivorous plants are taken home from garden nurseries every year in Canada, to only last a few weeks with their new owners because many don't know how to care for them, as the sellers of these plants don't educate them.

We want to be the exception to the rule, giving new plant parents all the guidance they require to keep successfully.
The struggle of the Venus Fly Trap
Did you know that Venus Fly Traps can live up to 20 years?
Some even consider them to be immortal because of their ability to clone themselves.
However, despite their propogation abilities, the Fly Trap is actually a threatened species, which resulted from the wild populations being decimated due to poaching. Yet, people have no idea!

Hundreds of these plants are cloned through artificial tissue culturing and sold all across canada, but are so genetically weak they don't survive to reproduce.

At Chomp & Bloom, we want our Venus Fly Traps to be strong and vigorous, which is why we commonly mix genetics, producing plants that have unique features and the diversity to survive to adulthood and beyond!
